LE GUIDE DU GARAGISTE

1928 Car Service Guide by Kervoline

What's not always in the classic car books

There are plenty publications about vehicles of the early 1920s. And many original owner's handbooks, sales brochures and more have fortunately been preserved by been digitally scanning. But when it comes to technical documentation such as parts lists, line drawings or other detailed data, it can be hard to get accurate historic technical documentation.

The 254-page "Guide du Garagiste" from 1928 contains a lot of engine/chassis drawings plus old service data for European vintage cars from Amilcar to Voisin. Kervoline, a top lube producer (joined Esso in 1939), has compiled a tremendous amount of info.

We've digitised the guide so you can access it again. Great info, whether you're a car history enthusiast or are the fortunate owner of one of the vehicles shown. The text is in French and easy to understand. French technical terms related to classic cars are translated to English on this page.

Preserving our technical heritage

The re-publication of "Le Guide du Garagiste" is not the first project of Vintage Tech Info. Back in 2010, together with Craig Richter, we re-published his "How To Make An Old Porsche Fly" performance handbook as a fun hobby project. The digital version of "How To Make An Old Porsche Fly" was well received by the Porsche and aircooled VW community. To this day Craig is amazed with the seemingly never ending interest for his "Old ~School" book from 1983.

"Le Guide du Garagiste" was re-discovered decades ago in France. Exactly as with Craig's book, every single page has been carefully copied, converted to a digital pdf file format, and an index was added. It is now readable on devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones.
