Vintage Tech Info

DEUTSCHE LAUFBILDPROJEKTOREN

by Herbert Tümmel and Jochen Hergersberg

A Rare Reference Guide For Antique and Vintage German 35-mm and 70-mm Projectors

In 1986, the German Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek published 3000 copies on paper of the Herbert Tümmels book. Many of the projectors described are now in the collection of the Film Museum Berlin

Herbert Tümmel graduated in 1937. He already worked as a cinematographic specialist for Zeiss Ikon and Ernemann/Zeiss Ikon in Dresden from 1932 onwards. In 1950 he became manager of the new Kinowerk of Zeiss Ikon AG and worked there until his pension in 1976.

Laufbildprojektoren

Deutsche Laufbildprojektoren has been sold out a long time ago. It's essential information is just not available anymore, not even on the internet. Until now..... With permission of the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek, we've digitised the guide so you can access it again. Great info, wether you're a cinematography enthusiast or are the fortunate owner of one of the projectors shown. The text is in German and easy to understand. German technical terms related to cinematography are translated to English on this page.

Preserving our technical heritage

The re-publication of "Deutsche Laufbildprojektoren" is not the first project of Vintage Tech Info. Together with Craig Richter, we re-published his "How To Make An Old Porsche Fly" performance handbook as a fun hobby project. De digital version of "How To Make An Old Porsche Fly" instantly was well received by the automobile community. To this day Craig is amazed with the seemingly never ending interest for his "Old-School" book from 1983.

Exactly as with Craig's book, every single page of "Deutsche Laufbildprojektoren" has been carefully copied, and converted to a digital pdf file format. It is now readable on devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones.

What sets the digital version apart?

Current owners of the book will not easily part from their original paper copy because it contains hard to find images and technical data. The digital version unlocks this information again. But it is not just an exact copy of the original book. The Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek was so kind to supply us with personal correspondence between consultant Jochen Hergersberg and Herbert Tümmel. These letters and additional images were added to the digital version and are not in the original book.
